The History of Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus

Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus is located at Trairat Village, address no.199, Sub-village no.9, Lumsum Sub-district, Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province. Approval for its establishment was granted by the cabinet on June 20, 1995, in accordance with the 8th Higher Education Development Plan, with its primary missions to extend the opportunity for higher education to regional sections as well as to use academic knowledge to help improve the quality of life of the communities in the area.

In 1998, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej delegated His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to lay the foundation stone for Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus on Saturday, April 18, 1998. Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus consists of a Faculty of Tropical Medicine, a Faculty of Veterinary Science, an Institute for Population and Social Research, and the Office of the Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus Establishment Project. The campus at first offered undergraduate programs run by the College of Management and the Faculty of Science.

In the academic year 2001, the Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus Establishment Project recruited the first batch of undergraduate students for two programs in the College of Management namely the Bachelor of Business Administration Program (Business Management) and the Bachelor Program in Accounting. In the academic year 2002, the University recruited students for three Bachelor of Science Programs, namely the Bachelor of Science Program (Food Technology), the Bachelor of Science Program (Agricultural Science), and the Bachelor of Science Program (Conservation Biology).

In the academic year 2004, the University recruited students for the Bachelor of Science Program (Geosciences).

In the academic year 2009, Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus Establishment Project received approval from the Mahidol Universiy Council to raise its status to the level of “Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus” with primary missions to broaden educational opportunities as well as to develop the communities in the area. On this occasion, the management of the Bachelor’s Programs offered there was transferred from the Faculty of Science and the College of Management to the Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus itself, both for the Bachelor of Science Programs and the Bachelor of Management Programs. The students recruited are considered as enrolled in the Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus.

In the academic year 2010, Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus recruited students for Bachelor of Business Administration Programs, namely the Bachelor of Business Administration Programs in General Management and in Management Information Systems.

In the academic year 2014, Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus began offering a Bachelor of Engineering Program in Environmental Engineering and Disaster Management and a Bachelor’s Program in Accounting after a needs analysis of the community had been done. This was in order to satisfy the needs of the community as well as of prospective employers.
