Journey to western Thailand

Field excursions offer the opportunity to visit geological features in western region of Thailand (Kanchanaburi – Suphan Buri – Uthai Thani).  Tentative schedules for in total of three field trips, one for mid-conference (January 11th, 2024) and two for post-conference (January 13th – 16th, 2024), are listed below. The fee for each route covers hotel, all meals and transportation during the excursion and the shuttle bus ride to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). Each excursions requires a minimum number of participants and may have a maximum limit of participants.  All post-conference excursion registration and payment are due by October 8th, 2023, until 23:59 pm (GMT +7hr Bangkok), but registration may be closed earlier if the maximum number of participants is reached.

Mid-conference excursion

One Day Trip (January 11th, 2024) – Kanchanaburi historical and cultural tour

Post-conference excursion

Route A : January 13th – 16th, 2024 (Sai Yok – Si Sawat – Bo Phloi – Nong Preu – Dan Chang – Ban Rai – U-Thong)

Trip highlights:

  1. Visit and investigate the reworked Permian Monodiexodena fusulinid in the Triassic calcareous sandstone near the Muslim Mosque at Ban Mo Thao.
  2. Visit and investigate the Cambrian meta-sandstone at the Srinagarind Dam.
  3. Visit the 3.14 Ma sapphire-bearing basalt at Bo Phloi.
  4. Visit and investigate the Triassic radiolarian chert and Ordovician limestone at abandon rock quarry at Dan Chang. Detailed rock units, features contact relationship can be observed and discussed.

Route B : January 13th – 16th, 2024  (Sai Yok  – Sai Yok Yai – Lin Thin – Thong Pha Phum – Si Sawat – Lat Ya)

Trip highlights:

  1. Investigate the Upper Paleozoic – Mesozoic carbonate rocks of western Thailand.
  2. The upper Cretaceous S-type biotite-muscovite tourmaline granites of Tenasserim range, near the Thai-Myanmar bounder.
  3. Investigate the Mesozoic continental red-bed of Kaeng Raboet Formation.
  4. Visit the Vajiralongkorn dam : investigate geology and fault of damsite area.
